This course aims to help students understand the latest trends and developments in global capital markets and the financial sector. Focusing on the rise of the blockchain technology and the third-generation Internet (Web3), it emphasizes the current development and application of digital assets and crypto finance in the Web 3 space.The core theme of the course is to understand the blockchain technology, smart contract, and their applications in decentralized finance (DeFi) and other Web3 business innovations (DApps). blockchain technology and smart contracts are the building blocks for a more secure, transparent, and efficient digital world. Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology with very special features such as immutability and a high level of security. Smart contract are digital contracts allowing terms contingent on decentralized consensus that are tamper-proof and typically self-enforcing through automated execution.In addition, the course covers key cryptography concepts (such as hashing, digital signatures, and asymmetric cryptography). It also covers topics on the principles and recent development of stablecoins and Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization.
